At the entrypoint web site, www.entrypoint.com, you can
take a quick tour of push technology; click "Product Demo" in the navigation bar. (PointCast, a pioneer of push technology, was acquired by Launchpad Technologies in May 1999.) For an excellent article on push technology that
includes links to some of the more popular push sites, connect to the Push Publishing page
at the National Library of Canada at www.nlc-bnc.ca/pubs/netnotes/notes41.htm.
Some experts would argue that there is no such thing as push technology, only variations
of pull. Edmund DeJesus explains this viewpoint in "The Pull of Push" (Byte,
August 1997). What do you use to wrap up a fish? A newspaper. That's the point of MIT's
experimental personalized newspaper project, fishWrap at fishwrap.mit.edu.
Where else can you sign up for a personalized newspaper? Head for CNN at www.cnn.com and follow the myCNN link.
