Plug-ins provide access to audio, video, graphics, and 3-D file formats. How do you know which plug-ins you really need? You can read reviews at sites such as the NetGuide Internet Plug-ins page at www.netguide.com/Internet/Plugins and download plug-ins at sites like www.download.com (enter "plug-in" in the search box). BrowserWatch Plug-In Plaza at browserwatch.internet.com/plug-in.html provides links to all of the plug-ins available on the Internet. Plug-ins are one of the most quickly changing aspects of the Web, and most computer magazines periodically include one or two articles about them. At www.pcworld.com/
software/internet_www/articles/apr97/1504p110m.html
, you can read "Plunging into Plug-Ins" from the April 1997 issue of PC World. This article also includes download links and tells you how to remove plug-ins that you no longer want to use--something that is not as easy to do as you would hope. Books such as Supercharged Web Browsers: A Plug-Ins Field Guide by Cheryl Kirk and Erica Sadun (Charles River Media, 1998) provide another resource for basic information about plug-ins.
