Although today's word processing software automatically produces documents in HTML format, it is handy to know a bit about what goes on behind the scenes with HTML tags. For a basic introduction on how to use HTML to create a Web page, connect to NCSA's "A Beginner's Guide to HTML" at www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/
HTMLPrimer.html. Sites such as "Learning HTML by the Tags Tutorial" at wally2.rit.edu/instruction/web/htmltags/
tutorial.html provide tutorials, links to information about graphics for the Web, and tips on how to publicize your Web site. Books, such as Sam's Teach Yourself Web Publishing with HTML 4 in 21 Days by Laura Lemay and Denise Tyler (Macmillan Publishing, 1999), are also helpful references. For clip art and animations, connect to Andy's Art Attack (also known as ScreamDesign) at www.screamdesign.com (formerly, www.andyart.com). Clip art on the Web is plentiful. Simply type "clip art" into your favorite search engine and follow the links. Be sure to read the permissions before using clip art from the Web.

The Web Developer's Virtual Library   This Web site is one of the premier sites for information about HTML and anything else related to designing and creating Web pages and Web sites. Sections of the site include Authoring, Internet, Location, Multimedia, Software, WebReference, Animation, CGI, Design, Graphics, HTML, Java, and Scripting. Each section contains noteworthy articles, tutorials, and links to other Web resources. The section on HTML contains information about HTML 4.0, the latest specification from the W3C, an online course on Web design, and information about HTML validation. The section on graphics includes discussions of graphics formats, color, backgrounds, techniques, graphics tools, image collections, and 3D graphics for the Web.
